Bristol & Bath en avril 2017

Bristol & Bath : my first impressions

Bristol was a commercial harbour then a big industrial city and today it's a fashionable town with a famous and beautiful university.

The first day, after a good flight from Toulouse, we dived into the city thanks to the hop on, hop off bus around Bristol.  Our first sight of the city with information in English was given by a very sympathical lady who made us participate.  In the evening we ate in the basement of the hotel where several people discovered the famous fish and chips but the meal was so big that there was no room for dessert!

The second day was on foot: Clifton village, the prettiest and richest parts of the city with Georgian terraced houses, the botanic garden, Clifton suspension bridge, the M shed museum, the water's edge, the docks transformed into cultural spaces, the coloured houses built for the dockers followed by an appreciated dinner to end an amazing but very tiring day in the hilly town.

The third day, we went by bus to Bath, one of the most beautiful English classified towns part of the UNESCO world heritage, we saw the Roman baths, the palladium terraced houses, Jane Austen's centre and Sally Lunn's restaurant where we ate delicious scones with clotted cream and jam, the Pulteney Bridge which is the Ponte Vecchio of Bath and then the ritual pub dinner!

On the last day, we had a great walk in the city to see Banksy's Graffitis, the world famous street artist who is from Bristol.  We weren't able to do any shopping because it was the Easter weekend and a lot of shops were closed.

We returned at the end of the day to Toulouse, very happy and conscious that the weather was correct, cool and a little sunny  but without any rain!

MALTA with Denise, by Hélène

In May 2017, during four days, fifteen Tarn & Garonnais went to MALTA with their favourite teacher!

Malta is a Mediterranean island between Sicily and Tunisia, two hours by plane from Toulouse. Its hot and dry climate warmed us up with a big and good sun in spite of the wind and dust.

Now, MALTA is very open to tourism. All the buildings are being restored. There are cranes and renovation work everywhere. The towns along the coast are in full development, but this island has a complicated history: it was a centre for pirates, now it's a « fiscal paradise »!

Our hotel was in Saint Paul’s Bay, near the sea and we went for a walk, on the first day. Friday we took an English bus with a panoramic gallery which was very nice. We saw LA VALETTE, capital of Malta, the bays, the harbours. A surprise was a small trip around these harbours: to see the town from the sea was a very good way to understand the fortifications of this town which has a history of war.

We also saw the beautiful town of MEDINA but the visit was too short and we lost one of our participants because we had to catch the bus very quickly! Fortunately, she managed to catch another bus and find her way back to the hotel! Thank you Denise for the lessons.

Saturday, we went on a longer boat trip to the islands of GOZO and COMINO, the weather was very hot. Some of our group swam in very blue water. Others did a small trip on a speed boat to visit the caves. It was very funny and exciting. Sunday was the return. All good things come to an end, Denise had organized this travel very successfully. She is very good at negotiating and the English charm was very efficient with the hotel Manager!

Thank you Denise . Hélène
